This week at Crossing Fight School, we’ll be reviewing the last couple of Schwertnehmen plays along with one of my very favorite sections in the manual, Abschneiden.

The Slice is, essentially, the Rodney Dangerfield of the Hauptstucke … it gets no respect! Judges and practitioners alike tend to forsake it, but there are few techniques as satisfying as this one when you are able to pull it off.

Slices can also take advantage of the ubiquitous ‘high bind’ situation we often find ourselves in (I’m sure it’s no accident that it was placed in this section of the manuscript), and allows for the chance to execute a controlling action, as if the sheer joy of slicing itself weren’t enough. 🙂

We’ll take a look at the different incarnations of this nasty technique, along with a few other exercises I hope you’ll find useful.

By the way … we’re nearing the end of the Ringeck text, and I’m giving careful consideration to what we dive into next. If someone has something they want to learn or teach, I’ll take it under advisement.

See you on Sunday.
