This week at Crossing Fight School, we will continue our study of one-handed weapons with an introduction to Italian rapier. 🙂

We will begin our examination of this elegant weapon system with Ridolfo Capoferro’s “The Art and Practice of Fencing”, starting with foundational elements of Capoferro’s system before diving into a study of plate 7. Plate 7 is essentially a “zip file” of this system, incorporating all the fundamental elements of footwork, attack, and defense using the rapier.

As we all know, Longsword includes a great deal of thrusting in many of the sources we study. The rapier, being a thrust-centric weapon certainly lends itself well to cross training. A study of rapier will almost surely improve your point control work with the longsword, so it is well worth our attention.

As a final note, because rapiers may be in limited supply, please bring any extra ones that you may have. You may also bring sideswords, provided that they have a diamond profile blade.

See you all on Sunday.
