This week at Crossing Fight School, we will continue our examination of Hans Medel’s Longsword, as we look into the last major section of the treatise, namely Nachreissen.
Nachreissen, or “traveling after”, is a particularly useful device, and can be employed at almost every stage of the fight. In keeping with a philosophy we often espouse, it can allow you to steal initiative from your opponent after a defensive action, or create space to make an opponent miss, creating a tempo where you can advance suddenly with a threat or attack. This is a device that no fencer should be without, and the lesson will be centered around the development and deployment of this very technique.
See you all on Sunday.
