This week at Crossing Fight School, our analysis of Hans Medel’s Longsword continues with his section on Nachreissen, or “traveling after”, as it’s sometimes referred to. This, as it turns out, is a far more useful technique than it may appear initially.
Although Nachreissen has many forms, it can be summarized as keeping the opponent’s sword occupied, or by taking your targets away using a voiding technique, and then setting upon them suddenly. In either case, you are using timing and/or distance management to abruptly steal initiative and control the fight.
Since this technique highlights things that can form the foundation of great fencing, I hope you’re all able to get as much out of this material as possible.
See you all on Sunday. 🙂
