This week at Crossing Fight School, we will be having a look at a new source, that of Hans Medel. He was a contemporary of Paurenfeyndt’s, chronologically well after the R/D/L sources, but before Meyer.

Medel has a somewhat unique take on a few different techniques, and although his inspiration derives quite clearly from the original KDF material, he prescribes different actions when performing certain techniques (as we will see). His treatise could potentially allow for certain things to be folded more neatly into our fencing, as the adjustments he suggests may allow for executing some of the canonical techniques more naturally. Some terminology oddities aside, his material looks promising, so I trust there will be something in it for each of us.

See you all on Sunday.
